UNSHAKABLE — WEEK 4

I WILL NOT BE SHAKEN

Finding stability in the God who never changes.

INTRODUCTION — WHERE DOES YOUR STABILITY COME FROM?

Over the past three weeks, we’ve been talking about what it means to live an unshakable life. We began by examining the foundation we’re building our lives upon. Then we talked about allowing God’s light to reveal the things in our lives that need to change. Last week, we looked at Paul’s testimony and discovered that even when we’re afflicted, perplexed, persecuted, or struck down, God’s power can sustain us.

As we conclude this series, I want us to consider one final question: Where does our stability really come from?

We live in a world where things are constantly changing. Our health can change, our finances can change, relationships can change, and circumstances we thought were secure can suddenly become uncertain. If our peace and confidence depend on everything going the way we planned, we’re going to spend much of our lives worried about what might happen next.

David understood what it meant to face uncertainty. Throughout his life, he experienced opposition, betrayal, danger, and circumstances beyond his control. Yet in Psalm 62, he makes a remarkable declaration: “I will not be shaken.”

The Hebrew word translated shaken is mot, which carries the idea of slipping, staggering, or losing one’s footing. David wasn’t saying that nothing difficult would ever happen to him. He was declaring that his confidence was firmly established in God.

Notice that David doesn’t say, “I will not be shaken because I’m strong.” His confidence comes from the One he calls his rock, his salvation, and his stronghold.

An unshakable life isn’t built on our ability to control what happens around us. It’s built on our confidence in the God who never changes.

TAKEAWAY 1 — PUT YOUR HOPE IN GOD

Bible Notes: David begins by speaking to his own soul, reminding himself to rest in God alone. The word translated rest carries the idea of being still or quiet before God. David understood that lasting hope couldn’t come from his circumstances because circumstances are constantly changing. His hope came from the Lord. Notice that David isn’t waiting for someone else to encourage him. He’s reminding himself where his confidence belongs. Sometimes we need to stop listening to our fears and start reminding ourselves of what we know to be true about God.

Application: Stop allowing your circumstances to determine your hope and remind yourself that God is still in control.

Key Thought: Our hope isn’t found in what happens around us but in the God who stands with us.

TAKEAWAY 2 — STAND ON WHAT CANNOT BE SHAKEN

Psalm 62:6–7 — He alone is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold; I will not be shaken.

Bible Notes: David describes God as his rock, salvation, stronghold, and refuge. Each description emphasizes the security and protection he finds in the Lord. A rock represents stability, while a stronghold provides protection against danger. David understood that his strength wasn’t enough to withstand everything life might bring, but God’s strength was. The Hebrew word mot, translated shaken, means to slip, stagger, or lose one’s footing. David wasn’t claiming that he would never experience difficulties. He was declaring that his confidence in God would keep him from being ultimately overcome by them. His stability wasn’t based on how strong he was but on how faithful God is.

Application: Build your confidence on God’s faithfulness rather than the temporary things in life that can change or fail.

Key Thought: An unshakable life isn’t built on our strength but on the strength of the God we trust.

TAKEAWAY 3 — TRUST GOD WITH EVERYTHING

Psalm 62:8 — Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts before him. God is our refuge.

Bible Notes: David moves from speaking to himself to encouraging others to trust God. Notice that he doesn’t say to trust God only when life is going well or when everything makes sense. He says to trust Him at all times. David also encourages us to pour out our hearts before God. This reminds us that trusting God doesn’t mean pretending we’re not hurting, worried, or afraid. God invites us to bring our burdens, fears, frustrations, and concerns to Him. We don’t have to hide our struggles or carry them alone because God is our refuge, a place of safety where we can turn regardless of what we’re facing.

Application: Bring your worries, fears, and burdens to God instead of trying to carry them on your own.

Key Thought: Trusting God doesn’t mean we have all the answers; it means we know who to turn to when we don’t.

CLOSING — I WILL NOT BE SHAKEN

As we bring this series to a close, I want us to remember something important. Becoming unshakable doesn’t mean we’re never going to experience difficulties. It doesn’t mean we’ll never face disappointment, uncertainty, or situations we don’t understand.

It means we’ve learned where to place our confidence.

David could say, “I will not be shaken,” because he knew that God was his rock, his salvation, and his refuge.

And that same God is available to us today.

Think about what may be causing uncertainty in your life right now. Maybe it’s something happening in your family, your health, your finances, or your future. Whatever you’re facing, God hasn’t changed.

The same God who was faithful yesterday will remain faithful tomorrow.

Our circumstances may change, but the God we trust never does.

So as we conclude UNSHAKABLE, remember these three truths: Put your hope in God. Stand on what cannot be shaken. Trust God with everything.

Because an unshakable life isn’t built on the absence of difficulties. It’s built on the presence and faithfulness of God.

And when our confidence is firmly established in Him, we can declare with David:

“I WILL NOT BE SHAKEN.”
